I created this little commandline tool for Linux to easily program Silicon Labs EFM8 microcontrollers and iCE40 FPGAs as well as SPI Flash-ROMs without the need for devkits and programming cables for every chiptype and brand I'm experimenting with. The USB-to-GPIO/UART interface is the cheap FTDI FT230X in a simple connection-diagram. The list of supported chip-types might grow ni the future as I get more chips to program... This program chiprog doesn't need libftdi, just the cross-platform libusb to be compiled and run.
