Hi! i'm a newbie "engineer" who is trying to design an high throughput (10Gbps) communication channel between a Xilinx FPGA and a PC using a optical medium.
On the pc side i've decided to use the Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-DA2 coupled with an Avago AFBR-703SDZ, and on the FPGA side also an Avago AFBR-703SDZ. I need to design ethernet protocol to transmit data to PC. This open core project seems to me well fitting my design: http://opencores.org/project,xge_mac,overview but what about the PHY ethernet layer? is there any open core or shall i look for an IC? Thank you!! :) |

hi kaiyu
I think you need to buy some IC like the SMSC LAN83C185, that's the IC in charge of Physical layer in Spartan3E Starter Kit. Good Luck. ;) |

Thank you for repling! Supposed that i'll find a 10Gbps PHY ethernet IC, it will be "easily" matched to the ethernet MAC IP core right? Is there any constrain i should pay attention to? Thanks!
