Existe una gran variedad de dispositivos FPGAs donde cada fabricante ofrece diferentes recursos de hardware.
La FPGA a utilizar pertenece a la familia Spartan3 de Xilinx Inc. Si bien existe gran variedad entre las diferentes empresas que fabrican estos dispositivos lógicos, se opta por Xilinx Inc. debido a la experiencia y herramientas de software y hardware con que cuenta el Centro de Investigación\footnote{CUDAR -- Centro Universitario de Desarrollo en Automoción y Robótica.} donde se desarrolla el proyecto. Las características que presenta la FPGA XC3S200A son:
