16550 MCR WO?
by Unknown on May 11, 2007

Hi, Can anyone tell me why the "UART 16550 compatible" IP core has a write-only MCR register? The reason I ask is that the windows serial drivers do in fact read the MCR - implying that the registers are RW on a real device (the datasheet doesn't specifically state RO or RW AFAICT). And the fix is hidden in a bug named 'STUDENT'! :O Regards, -- Mark McDougall, Engineer Virtual Logic Pty Ltd, http://www.vl.com.au> 21-25 King St, Rockdale, 2216 Ph: +612-9599-3255 Fax: +612-9599-3266

MCR is writable on a real NS16550A.

Obviously, being a control register. But readable as well? Regards, -- Mark McDougall, Engineer Virtual Logic Pty Ltd, http://www.vl.com.au> 21-25 King St, Rockdale, 2216 Ph: +612-9599-3255 Fax: +612-9599-3266
