implementing or1200 on ml310 board

Hi

I am trying to get the or1200 processor running on the Xilinx ml310
board. I have followed the basic openrisc H/W manual . I have divided
the input clock by a factor of 10. But, when i give ./jp1 xpc3 9999 ,
it connects to port 378. No read and expected values can be seen. My
jtag connection is through a PC4 cable and which does not support the
jtag_trst connection. I have enabled the debug trace module. Please
tell me how to get the jtag program working.

Thanks
Sarath

Hi Sarath, This question comes up from time to time. The problem is the instructions on connecting via JP1 are now quite old. I presume you are using the hardware tutorial by Patrick Pelgrims, Dries Driessens and Tom Tierens of the De Nayer Instituut at the Hogeschool voor WetenSchap & Kunts in Belgium: http://www.opencores.org/projects.cgi/web/or1k/openrisc_1200 Since then both OpenRISC and its JTAG interface have evolved. In particular there are two flavours of the JTAG interface. The older version (used I believe in the above paper) is included in the ORPSoC RTL tree, the newer version (by Igor Bodor) is a separate OpenCores download. The newer version is simpler (i.e smaller) and has a slightly different scan chain for CPU control. The OpenRISC has also evolved, with different structure to its configuration registers. I am concerned that you are getting a connection to port 378 and not port 9999. How are you detect this? Are you seeing a message: JTAG Proxy server started on port 378 when you run jp1? If you can explain in more detail exactly how you have your system set up, which versions of the code you are using etc, I'll see if I can suggest any ways to help. Looking at the code for jp1.c, I don't think the lack of TRST matters. The comments imply that they'll reset by writing lots of zeros. The guys from ORSoC supply a modern USB -> JTAG cable and may have some suggestions, based on their experience.
