We need an OpenGl core!

You know, there is no fully supported OpenGL 1.5 accelerator for linux. =(

Sadly, I don't know enough 3D coding to design one....

It would be cool if such a core also supported general purpose FP stuff
such as matrix ops and FFT, etc... and could work as a scheduled
co-processor... =)

A 3-D graphics accelerator would be fun, but methinks the hardware
manufacturers have already selected their parts from established
sources. I expect it would be a hard sell to get the computer makers to
accept a brand new accelerator from an unknown developer, and the
software support issue would remain unabated.

This request would probably get a stronger response in someplace like
SourceForge.org, where they focus on software rather than hardware
development.

My two cents....

The OpenGL API already supports this. A core supporting fragment and
vertex shaders can easily be used as coprocessor.

Seems like the Manticore project is at least a beginning in this direction... http://www.opencores.org/projects.cgi/web/manticore/overview Or am I missing something? -Johnathan

The GEaRS project as well, but both seem to be abandoned in an early
stage since 2002.
