OpenCores SERVER IS BACK ONLINE

Hey !
There has been an attack on opencores.org master server that caused server being down for last 48 hours. I hope this was someone with too much time on his hands - we can only hope that this wasn't someone or some company with more sinister reasons... If you are the attacker and reading this, OpenCores is a free service with its mission in the same spirit as free software / open source software, as I know you know Linux very well, you are doing harm to something similar like Linux. I hope you can sleep. There will be some upgrading of the server's SW and HW needed in the next weeks or so. The plan is to put two servers on-line that will provide additional services following recent introduction of nLint etc. Hopefully two servers will be able to handle all the work that current server has problem to cope with. They will also allow easier maintenance since there will always be one server while the other is being down for whatever maintenance. Due to security reasons CVS is disabled. I hope it will be back online later this week. regards, Damjan PS This is the first time in 4.5 years that OpenCores master server was down for more than 24 hours. On average up time for OpenCores master server was about 3-4 months in the last 4.5 years. |

Damjan, was the server compromised or was it a (D)DoS-attack?

Joachim,
please understand I don't want to comment on the details due to security
reasons. Thanks
Be assured we are getting everything back to normal and should have another
4.5 years of uninterrupted service.
regards,
Damjan
