Because it is not moderated. For a while spam filters did a decent job,
however it is getting worse and I'm condering it might be the time for a
moderated list. However moderated list would mean some delay in getting
legitimate posts to the list. The delay could be reduced by having several
moderators - are there any volunteers to be moderators of the opencores
lists (maybe time to reduce number of mailing lists?)

Damjan

Hi Damjan,
Could you briefly explain how the moderation works technically. Is every email screened or only the subscription of new users? What tasks are involved? Thanks Guenter Damjan Lampret wrote:

On the subject of spam filters, are they still in place? I know that most
of the random spam I get on a given day is one of 5 messages, almost word for word. Seems like things like that should be easy to filter ... Here's an idea. Are there different settings/different spam filters that could be used? How about set it up so that it boots anything that it thinks even look like spam, and that gets sent to a moderater, but everything else just gets sent. Might even be worth having something like a "trusted" list, ie people who've posted a lot in the past are considered unlikley to spam, as opposed to someone new? I don't know if either of those are possible, but it seems like, if it could be done, it would cut down on the moderators workload. Mike On Mon, 21 Jun 2004, Damjan Lampret wrote:

I don't know if it would be enough just to add new sender addresses, or to
check every single email. Probably the first option would be enough.
Approval is performed either through email or web interface. We need about
3-4 moderators at least per mailing list preferably from different time
zones.

Damjan

Flooded with spam ? Aren't you exaggerating a bit ?!
I think the ration of the MP3 "me toos" was higher
than real spam ...
I think we don't really need a moderator just yet ...

Afternoon..
Could you please delete me from the anti-spam list? Don't see the point in doing this. Never seen any serious mailing list allowing non-members to post. Besides..what's the point in getting (un)subscription messages and successful discard messages with all spam/virus content? And please make discard filter global instead of limiting to one mailing list... thanx in advance rick |
