For a project involving an ethernet MAC core and a I2C core I am considering using a uC-core to take care of the dataflow between the two. Problems: -The uC-cores with decent devtools (OpenRISC, MicroBlaze, LEON) are overkill for this application. A small 8-bit uC would suffice. -The smaller freely available uC-cores don't come with dev tools. In the best case I've seen so far, an only half-working C-compiler was made for that uC-core. Can anyone advise me on this? Have I missed that one small free uC that actually comes with an IDE or at least some fully working dev tools (not just an assembler)? |

I have had a lot of luck with the aeMB, which has gcc tools. The aeMB uses the Microblaze instruction set. The author, Shawn, has been very responsive to bug reports. You can see our whole open source SoC project, including a modified version of the gigabit ethernet core, here: http://gnuradio.org/trac/browser/gnuradio/trunk/usrp2 Matt |
