OpenCores users may be interested in HCT, the HDL Complexity Tool. This is an open source project (hosted on Sourceforge), which aims to bring the techniques of Cyclomatic Complexity to HDL analysis. This allows developers to highlight areas of code with the greatest complexity, as candidates for simplification or additional testing. The project has released alpha code, which can be downloaded here: They'd welcome more users to give feedback on how well the tool works on a wider range of designs. They have a mailing list which you can join here: I've run the tool over the ORPSoC code. I'll post the results on the OpenRISC forum. Jeremy

Any clue as to how to install on ubuntu? I read the INSTALL, followed the instructions as best I could
and get: johne@hallway:~/Desktop/hct-0.7.50$ ./configure --prefix=$HOME checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking for dot... found checking for perl5... no checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl checking for perl module GraphViz... ok checking for perl module Pod::Simple... ok checking for perl module GD::Graph... no configure: error: HCT requires GD::Graph johne@hallway:~/Desktop/hct-0.7.50$ |

There is a different set of instructions on the website! Both actually work, but they assume that substantial numbers of PERL modules are there. I hit the same issue, using your approach, on Fedora 9. You have to load the various PERL modules (GD::Graph in this case). There were 5 or 6 I found I needed. The instructions on the Website are a little easier, and use CPAN to download the missing modules automatically. Except I found that the PERL script wouldn't run on Fedora. However it prints out the list of modules it wishes to install and I just used CPAN to install them by hand. The script then ran fine to complete the installation of HCT. The guys on the HDL mailing list are very helpful and responsive, so you can always ping them. I'll flag this issue up. HTH, Jeremy

Hi John You'll see the instructions have been updated on the HCT website. There'll also be a new version of HCT in a few days, which will have a much cleaner configuration script. HTH, Jeremy

Jeremy,
I have it running now but it doesn't seem to support V2K port declarations. I had to convert back to the old style in order of it to recognize my ports John Eaton |

Hi John, I hit this bug and raised it on the mailing list. I've also added it to the bug tracker on the project (it's still in 0.7.60). I understand they're working on a fix. If you're interested, you might like to join the HCT mailing list. They're very interested to hear from users. ATB, Jeremy
