I am new to Plasma and have only a small amount of FPGA experience.
I am very impressed by Plasma. I was able to get it running very quickly. I did have one small problem with the ucf (see the bug report) but this may be because of the way I use the Xilinx tools. Target: Spartan 3E starter kit. Host: 64-bit Gentoo Linux, Xilinx ISE 11.1 Webpack, GHDL, GTKwave. I created a makefile that uses the Xilinx tools via their command line interfaces: this worked. I have implemented and loaded the FPGA, added the LCD driver, and run test code, but I have not yet loaded the kernel. I have implemented but not tested a very crude SPI interface with an initial goal of reading the kernel from the platform flash. The SPI interface (as I implemented it) controls six new output bits but will eventually need a few more, so I created a register gpio1_out by slavish replication of gpio0_out. I added the one and only new input bit to gpioA_in. So far, so good. The platform Flash is 4Mbit (512KB,) but the FPGA uses a fixed amount of just more than 2Mbit, leaving about 225KB free for a Kernel image. Although Xilinx does not document this capability specifically for this target, it is possible to read the PF from the FPGA. I will use the SPI peripheral to reset the PF address, read and discard the FPGA image, and then copy the kernel image into DDR. On the host, I will convert the kernel binary to the correct format and append it to the "prom" image before I download the flash. Currently, my problem is that the Apps directory is not in the SVN repository, Is it available somewhere? it would be nice to have a worked example. More generally, is there a document somewhere on how to use the kernel? |

Thank you for reporting the issues you have found. To fix the clock warning problem, I simplified eth_dma.c so that E_RX_CLK is no longer used as a clock. Please let me know if this fixes the problem.
The "app" directory isn't in SVN but it shouldn't be needed. The "rtos" makefile target compiles the RTOS along with RTOS test code. The "rtos_tcpip_eth" makefile target compiles the RTOS, Ethernet MAC, TCP/IP stack, web server, and flash file system without needing any files in the "app" directory. Only the "rtosfull" target needs the additional HTML pages and game logic from the "app" directory. The rtos_test.c file provides examples of how to use all of the RTOS functions. Please let me know if you have any specific questions. |
