There is an excellent discussion in comp.lang.verilog about free IP core and LGPL. Search for "Using an IP Core licensed under the LGPL" Actually in this particular post the guys is quire determine to use the LGPL IP Core in a commercial product and is trying to figure out ways ... My bet is that most "larger" companies and "major players" would just take a look at than ignore the LGPL IP Cores ... Why so many here insist on LGPL just boggles my mind ... It just seems to be fashonable to use it in HW. I'm much more interrested by
the use of GPL with the restriction of the use of any core on some api.

It defined much more what is possible to do than the use of the linking
concept (and the meaning of "combine forme of work").
