I've done a little work on a DVB-T modulator in an FPGA. In a couple of months, I'll be making a DVB-T modulator and demodulator. I'm not an expert but I might be able to answer some questions. However, take anything I say with a grain of salt because there is a lot of stuff that I do not understand. -Brian -----Original Message----- From: cores-bounces at opencores.org on behalf of Tonny Matos Siqueira Sent: Fri 8/13/2004 4:42 AM To: cores at opencores.org Cc: Subject: [oc] OFDM Hello, Has somebody working with OFDM modulation in FPGA? Carrier recovery, symbol timing recovery or the syncronization to make the IFFT work? I can help you with carrier recovery and symbol timing recovery but I do not know how to do the syncronization for the IFFT. -Brian -----Original Message----- From: cores-bounces at opencores.org on behalf of Tonny Matos Siqueira Sent: Wed 8/25/2004 12:02 PM To: Discussion list about free open source IP cores Cc: Subject: Re: [oc] OFDM Hello, And forgive my delay. Hello: I am not an expert in OFDM, but AFAIK the digitall part is just a serial to parallel converter, a inverse fast fourier transform and a parallel to serial converter. What problem do you have with it? Hi, I am working on a DMT transceiver project on opencores and would like to know how yours all overall development strategy is for the OFDM part? Do you follow a standard that specifies all the details like FFT/IFFT size, precision etc. or do you develop that yourself? Do you first simulate the system in another language, like Matlab or C and use that code to generate test data for the logic simulation or how else do you create test data to compare that your logic follows the requirements? BTW, the project is under http://www.opencores.org/projects.cgi/web/dmt_tx/overview Thanks for the help. Guenter Tonny Matos Siqueira wrote:

I was wondering about where in the Internet is the best place to discuss
OFDM implementation issues, especially OFDM/FPGA related issues.

I think it is great that this discussion about OFDM started here, and
probably everybody who is interested in the development of free logic
cores is probably subscribed to this list.

However I feel there is not much commotion about the subject and I was
wondering where are all the people, involved with the implementation of
OFDM? What I mean is that every modern communications system, like xDSL,
cable modem, WLAN, you name it, uses OFDM. Is there no need to exchange
informations about it or is that only done on business levels, meaning
for example conferences.

I follow comp.arch.dsp and when you see what thread gets the longest
discussion it is often something audio related or some theoretical
aspects of a FFT or some other algorithm. When it comes to some
practical issues the thread dies off pretty quick.

I feel like you can bring up an OFDM related implementation subject in
comp.arch.fpga and it gets more attention than in comp.arch.dsp.

I would appreciate to hear some other comments and thoughts.

Regards,

Guenter

Just to let you know of something you might be interested in. I use Xilinx System Generator at work. Basically it is a bunch of blocks for Simulink (the graphical tools that work in matlab). Then it autogenerates code using these blocks. It's not perfect now, but it is the way of the future. I can do the work of six engineers with it. I made a BPSK transmitter and OQPSK transmitter with FEC (RS/viterbi with no interleaving) in one and a half days. I think carrier recovery for an OFDM signal might be hard. I don't know if a coastas loop will work. I'm going to look into using two band edge filters to pick up the carrier. Basically, they would be two bandpass filters that are centered on opposite edges of the spectrum. By comparing the energy in the filters you can determine which way to move the carrier. -Brian -----Original Message----- From: cores-bounces at opencores.org on behalf of Günter Dannoritzer Sent: Fri 9/3/2004 9:11 PM To: Discussion list about free open source IP cores Cc: Subject: Re: [oc] OFDM Hi, I am working on a DMT transceiver project on opencores and would like to know how yours all overall development strategy is for the OFDM part? I am very cautious about what type of info I broadcast onto the internet. I don't share a lot of things because they might be considered my companies IP and I don't want to get in trouble.
