Hi guys,
It's a long and difficult project your planning to achieve. So good luck for the following ! But I have one question regarding the costs of such a project (I precise that I already have looking for this information but found nothing!). As I see you're planning to use some 24 bit ADC DAC, to my mind at the end of the project, when you see the cost of such devices, it's going to cost 4 or 5 times the cost a commercial soundcard once finished. But maybe you have some prices to your local electronics shop ??! Moreover, isn't the term "DSP" a bit confusing, since you use a simple FPGA ?! Wouldn't it be cheaper to simply embed a DSP instead of one FPGA, 1 DAC and 1 ADC ? Adrien |

If we look at prices of high-professional grade cards (two channels only, input, output, digital and analog with some simple DSP functions, ... mixer, etc).... they cost about 500-800$. If you think about prototype... you are probably right... but I think that overall price will not be bigger than 1500$ for one card in small serie (10 pcs.)
But maybe you have some prices to your local electronics shop ??!
look at project page, there are some informations about distributors for most expensive chips... (Digikey, Newark) Some people may try to ask for samples... Moreover, isn't the term "DSP" a bit confusing, since you use a simple FPGA ?! yes, it's probably confusing... but this card project is intended to using of free (libre) and/or free (no-cost) tools... for DSPs we don't have _that_ tools Wouldn't it be cheaper to simply embed a DSP instead of one
FPGA, 1 DAC and 1 ADC ?
We don't have idea to build cheap card, but high-grade professional card, and "cheap" cards will have 5-10 times bigger price than comercial cards in same class, if we try to build one piece with our hands :). This case we don't have with comercially available high-grade cards. Best regards, -boggy
