Hi,
I'm working on my university thesis, which involves porting Plasma to other Xilinx boards so that we can integrate Plasma in a software/hardware co-design compiler project named SysPy. The boards that we will use have the following FPGAs: 1) Spartan 3E Starter Kit (Plasma's default) 2) Virtex II-Pro 3) Virtex 5 I have already synthesized and implemented Plasma on all three FPGAs successfully. What matters now is making Plasma's integrated peripherals work across all the boards. The main obstacles as you can imagine are Ethernet (1) and DDR memory(2). (1) No matter what I try I can't make Plasma's ethernet to work even on my first board (Spartan 3E) which happens to be Plasma's default board. I have a working toolchain setup and all the tools are compiled with visual studio's cl.exe. For example if I boot up the system with the bootloader (that I made with "make bootldr") and then upload/run (via etermip) the Plasma RTOS with TCP/IP and Ethernet (made with "make rtos_tcpip_eth") I can't make any packet exchange happen. The board seems to be getting a DHCP IP (lease time is reported as 60 seconds when I check my router's DHCP stats) but when I try to ping it's given IP, all I get is destination unreachable. (2) If I can solve the above Ethernet communication problem then I could move on to the next step which involves the creation of two DDR/DDR2 controllers with Xilinx MIG 3.6 and then connecting them to Plasma, replacing the bundled DDR controller which only works for a single DDR chip (MT46V32M16). I don't really like MIG but I don't have the experience to create custom DDR/DDR2 controllers with correct timings. I also searched the net extensively but couldn't find any smaller/simpler customizable memory controllers If anyone knows any solution to my Ethernet problem, or has any experience with integrating a MIG controller to Plasma (or to similar CPU softcores), please reply here, I would be thankful.
