I need some help on FGPAs.

Hi guys,

Forgive my ignorance and inexperience. Currently I'm working in a
uni project on which isn't really my choice and now I'm thoroughly
stuck and screwed over.

I have no knowledge on FGPAs whatsoever. The project is about
interfacing a xilinx spartan 3 fgpa with an application, with the host
computer sending data to the fgpa via USB. The FGPA will then send out
data to the application through DACs. Can anyone help me out on where
to start?

I downloaded the Xilinx ISE Webpack and I have absolutely no idea
how to use it :(

Also. how am I going to design a user interface to work with the usb
connection? Any tools or program to start with?

Cheers, Danny

Sorry Danny, but this isn't exactly the forum where you should be asking this sort of question. I suggest you contact your project supervisor and explain him your situation. My brief suggestion is for you to start with something a tad simpler, such as a "traffic light controller" to implement on an FPGA. To the ops: can someone please start a "newbie" mailing list, I've been getting too much of these e-mails lately. Edmond --- sjidaniel at yahoo.co.uk wrote:

For getting started with ISE, as I had the same problem with it at first (it wasn't easy to just guess my way through how to use it), I recommend these videos: http://www.digilent.us/Support/Videos.html They walk you through basic operation of ISE. If you need more help though, the xilinx forums are very good for this kind of thing. http://toolbox.xilinx.com/cgi-bin/forum -Arlen On Mon, 13 Dec 2004 09:26:45 -0800 (PST), Edmond Cote edmond_cote at yahoo.ca> wrote:

Start at Digilentinc.com. Once you have some basic understanding of how ISE works, go back to digilentinc.com and download Adept SDK, DPIMREF.VHDL, and the DPCDEMO source C files. between these two applications and their documentation you should be able to make heads or tales of this. I have been working on just such a project for a few weeks. If you need further assistance please contact me off the message boards. kung_fu_mike at excite.com Mike Thompson Washington State University Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science --- On Mon 12/13, Edmond Cote edmond_cote at yahoo.ca > wrote: From: Edmond Cote [mailto: edmond_cote at yahoo.ca] To: cores at opencores.org Date: Mon, 13 Dec 2004 09:26:45 -0800 (PST) Subject: Re: [oc] I need some help on FGPAs.
