hello every body,
i am a new use of vhdl & fpga. I amusing spartan-3E starter board from diligent. I am trying to build my own simple cpu on this board. The architecture is pretty simple, there is one alu associated with the cpu, the opcodes are stored in the memory and the result is also being stored in memory. My code is very simple, it adds two integer and stores the result in a specific address.I need to access the address and see that the proper result is stored. For this I have written the code for the same and also have the testbench. I have seen it works fine & gives me exact result during the behavioral simulation. Now do any body have idea how to check this on Spartan-3E board. I understand I have to create the ucf file for the same. If anybody can share any idea on this or can share any link where cpu has been built using vhdl code on spartan-3e board. |

You write: "the opcodes are stored in the memory". Which memory are you using? Block RAM is much easier to deal with than the DDR SDRAM on the Digilent board.
Display of results: I do this over a serial line. Implement a UART together with your CPU and connect a PC to the other end of the line. Then you can transmit the results from your CPU to the PC where they are displayed. I just ported my 32-bit CPU "ECO32" from another board to Digilents's S3E starter kit board. If you are interested, you can find the details here: http://homepages.thm.de/~hg53/eco32-on-s3e However, the whole thing is written in Verilog, not in VHDL. Hellwig |

Hi,
Hellwig has suggested a good example to display the results, if your results are 8 bit then you can display it on the Eight individual LED outputs thats already on the spartan-3E starter board with little glue logic to port map the LED IO's with the results and add delays for every result to be display so that you can confirm the results.
