OpenCores Server

Hi,

As many of us have noticed, the current OpenCores server is in very low
hours. I would like to pose two questions:

1) It appears that the page uses many cgi scripts even for browsing the
projects and almost anything, these kind of scripts don't scale up well
at all, as we can see now, they are all right for real fast servers or ones
with few concurrent clients, and even then they are disappearing from the
scene in favor of ASP (MS servers) or PHP (Linux mostly). Wouldn't it be
a good idea to change the way pages are accessed having all this in mind?

2) It looks as if donors for the new server had to be enterprises donating
big money but wouldn't it be ok to post a banking account number to let
anybody who wanted to contribute make a banking transaction? they wouldn't
be big contributions but it is still money for the cause. Or maybe set up
a PayPal account... how does that sound? Damjan?

Best regards and Happy New Year to everybody,

Víctor López Lorenzo

Currently all pages except files accessed via CVSGet method are dynamic and that puts additional pressure on the server load. In my opinion the weakest link in that configuration is single server with IDE disks. Currently all services are on one single server and that means when disk I/O is high other services wait for disk I/O and that means failures :-) Our plan is to lower the load of the main server with additional server and then put some of the services on the new server (like CVS and MySQL). We will also try to reduce the load of web server with squid web accelerators who will server the static pages faster than web server. We have even establish test configuration, so if you want to try it, please use: http://www2.opencores.org and report any troubles to webmaster at opencores.org. Your report contribution would make opencores.org site faster. If you want to help with the new site (or have any useful comments), please dont hesitate to contact me on my private email (jernejp at opencores.org)... regards, Jernej opencores.org site administrator

We have spare capacity on the server that hosts www.demosondemand.com and would be happy to take some of the load. Because our content is streaming video demos of EDA tools, seminars, etc., we it's hosted across Akamai Networks' 14,000 servers placed across the globe. This is great for when users are worldwide -- like the opencores group. Let me know if you want to talk to our IT manager. BTW, I want to again point out that we've got Damjan Lampret's Open RISC 1200 processor demo here: http://www.demosondemand.com/dod/proddemos/vendors/pd_opencores.aspx -----Original Message----- From: cores-bounces at opencores.org [mailto:cores-bounces at opencores.org] On Behalf Of Jernej Porenta Sent: Thursday, January 06, 2005 1:45 AM To: Discussion list about free open source IP cores Subject: Re: [oc] OpenCores Server Hello Victor, Víctor López wrote:

I am completely agree with this. Maybe allowing people to make smaller contributions to a bank account or through PayPal it will be possible to collect the necessary amount of money. I think that using this way many people will contribute (At least I´ll do it).
