Hello,

I'm trying to make use of the FT2232 core from here, but it's been written to use Altera specific DCFIFO's on a Cyclone II. What I am trying to do is to substitute them for some dual ported FIFOs for use on a Spartan 3.

Link here: http://opencores.org/websvn,filedetails?repname=ft2232hcore&path=%2Fft2232hcore%2Ftrunk%2Fvhdl%2Fusb_sync%2Fusb_sync.vhd

I've made the required FIFO's using the Xilinx Coregen - the problem I am having is how to insert them into the VHDL module in place of the Altera specific ones.

I thought it should be a simple and straight forward case of just overwrittng the Altera specific DCFIFO construct with that taken from the Xilinx Coregen .VHO and .VHD files - but I can't for the life of me get it to work.

All of the examples I can find of using the Xilinx Coregen output seems to be about just cutting and pasting the relevant sections from the .VHO and .VHD files into a new top file - but what I want to do here is to maintain the original existing code structure and only insert the Xilinx equivalent FIFO in place of the Altera DCFIFOs - whilst retaining the original cores structure.

Any help is appreciated.

Mario.

I'll reply to this in case it ever comes up in a future search for someone else, but it turns out that what I was doing to instantiate the DP FIFO's from the Xilinx CoreGen was actually correct.

I was trying to make use of the Nanoboards and Altium Designer I had laying about here, so let me make a warning to all: Altium's FPGA stuff is just a complete and utter waste of time and money. It's just bug ridden rubbish and it's ridiculous it was even sold. It transpires that both the Altium synthesiser and it's 3rd party core importation simply don't work properly with anything more complex than a binary counter.

So it looks like I'll just throw all the Altium stuff into the bin (where it belongs) and from now on just use ISE and buy an ML605 for dev work.

Mario.
