Good remakr Jonny, without that I may only guess that it refers to clock polarity in SPI modes.

You mean the first two bits of serial data flow? They are control signal that used to select the function of data!For example, if CP0 and CP1 are '0' and '1' respectively, the data could be the address or some other things. Does it make sense?
