Hello I'm an EE student on his last year at a Spanish uni. To complete my degree, I need to make a project where I demonstrate the engineering skills I've pursued through my studies. I was thinking that it'd be a good idea giving something to this nice community opencores has become. That said, I'm open to any requests some project maintainer or colaborator can do, considering my (more than probable) limitations, and bear in mind that the proposal I'd decide to carry out should receive the approval of one of my teachers who would act as a tutor during the project. Not that I think that would be too big a problem, though. Regards, Lucas Valentin -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Hi Lucas, My first comment would be to pick an area of design which interests you and follow that. I would also try for something which has not already been done on opencores -- microprocessors are already very well covered. Also, in terms of your final project, having something you can physically demonstrate goes over well. The two basic paths I see are either a) build a new core to perform some function, or b) integrate several opencores components into a new device. Option b definately has some better opportunities to build something you can demonstrate. Ideas for a core: Gigabit Ethernet MAC. Could be done either as a ground-up design or use the existing 10/100 MAC as a starting point. Integration ideas: USB mouse or storage device. Take USB core and PHY, OpenRISC CPU, and build a USB device. Could add a UART to make a PS2-to-ethernet converter, or flash device to make USB-storage device. Maybe use one of the crypto cores (or do it in software) to make a secure storage device. PCI crypto accelerator. Use PCI bridge plus AES core to create crypto accelerator. Create linux driver and hooks into OpenSSL. Both of those options should be able to fit into a demo board, if you can acquire one... Hope this helps. - Guy -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: http://www.opencores.org/forums.cgi/cores/attachments/20051222/2a5fe207/attachment.htm
