Introduction to PCI?

Can anyone recommend some reading material for a person trying to learn a bit about PCI? I am trying to understand how operating systems interface with PCI devices. I have learned a bit from the book Linux Device Drivers but I would like to learn more. I don't really feel like spending $100 on the spec from the PCI-SIG as I doubt that it would really help that much. Thanks.

My company has the spec, but I found "PCI System Achitecture" (ISBN 0201309742) book to be very informative and use it interchangiably with the spec. I was told that "PCI Bus Demystified" (ISBN 187870754X) deals more with the software side of things. HTH, Victor --- "Hunt, Adam" ahunt at solvone.com> wrote:
