Hi guys,
I just bought a Digilent Spartan 3 board with a programming cable and
a power supply. I have no CD or manual with that and i was wondering
if you can direct me to a simple tutorial to learn how to actually put
something in my Spartan XC3S1000. Picoblaze will fit ?

Thank you in advance for your answers,
Dumitru

It might help to specify a model number of the board, and try searching for that on google. Check http://www.digilentinc.com/ site and see if they have any documentation for your board. Get the ISE Webpack (free) from Xilinx.com. Picoblaze will fit easily. That said, the pinouts of the board are fairly important, so you will need to locate the board's specifications somewhere... They might be built into EDK, but that's not free. -----Original Message----- From: cores-bounces at opencores.org [mailto:cores-bounces at opencores.org] On Behalf Of Dumitru Stama Sent: Friday, January 05, 2007 5:12 AM To: cores at opencores.org Subject: [oc] Spartan 3 Hi guys, I just bought a Digilent Spartan 3 board with a programming cable and a power supply. Hi John, This is my board : http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?Nav1=Products&Nav2=Programmable&Prod=S3BOARD It is fitted with XC3S1000 and this is the only thing which is different than the standard one. I took ISE Webpack but i need something to get me started with it and maybe with picoblaze. Microblaze is too expensive for my budget right now and since this is only a hobby for me i want to play with picoblaze. I installed ISE Webpack (man it's HUGE ... !) and i just watch the whole thing without any clue whatsoever what to do next :D I just need some simple examples, some tutorial to start my quest. Try reading the Xilinx documentation or run the Project Manager... That's assuming you have some knowledge of Verilog or VHDL to program the FPGA. If not, I'll start by learning that as a start... To program the FPGA, you'll need to connect it through JTAG and run Xilinx iMPACT. It'll do most of the detective work for you... The CD might come with some "bit" files that you can load directly... Good luck Erez. -----Original Message----- From: cores-bounces at opencores.org [mailto:cores-bounces at opencores.org] On Behalf Of Dumitru Stama Sent: Saturday, January 06, 2007 3:16 AM To: cores at opencores.org Subject: [Norton AntiSpam] Re[2]: [oc] Spartan 3 Hi John, This is my board : http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?Nav1=Products&Nav2=Programmab le&Prod=S3BOARD It is fitted with XC3S1000 and this is the only thing which is different than the standard one. Hi Dumitru, I'm just wondering how come XC3s1000 board is landed over. Normally Xilinx develops boards for XC3S200 FPGAs. I have searched for the development boards in XILINX website for more information on the device you specified. But there were no such boards manufactured by Xilinx. I bilieve you might have caught up with the reseller board which is not at all good for your practice. For reference designs of Spartan3 (XC3S200) starter kit you browse through the below mentioned link. http://www.xilinx.com/products/boards/DO-SPAR3-DK/reference_designs.htm On your other interest I suggest you to download picoblaze IP core from Xilinx website where in you can write your own assembly code and assemble it with the compiler that you download from the xilinx website before which you need to register at the below mentioned URL for accessing the downloads of Picoblaze. For any further clarification you can write to me. http://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xil_reg_process_login.jsp regards, Srikar.Talla Application Engineer- University Program CG-CoreEl Programmable Solutions Pvt.Ltd. Hello Srikar (i hope this is your first name :) ), I bought this board from Digilent which from what i understood is also the manufacturer for all Xilinx development boards. They can fit a S200, S400 or S1000 onto this board if you pay an extra fee. In my case it was something like $50. I ordered this version because i was afraid i will not be able to fit picoblaze into S200. I downloaded picoblaze for Spartan chips and i will try to see if i can solve the puzzle of actually creating a small program and then compile everything and program the chip on my board. Thank you for your time, Dumitru ST> Hi Dumitru, ST> I'm just wondering how come XC3s1000 board is landed over. ST> Normally Xilinx develops boards for XC3S200 FPGAs.
