To all those "Plz do my homework for me": a good engineer is forged by doing things by himself (even clicking the download button in a core page instead of writing the lame email I am answering to) I am so amazed at, if not tired of, all this people that send mails to this mailing list (or straight to my email, which I suppose happens to everybody here) requesting (if not as an exigence) that we do their work for them. It is hurting to see how people dare to be exigent when you are giving them your hard work for free... Not long ago, I cc'ed this list, an individual even told me he said in his job interviews that he was the author of a core of mine. Another example may be the MP3 core emails issue, I would regard as a living-god anybody who actually did a complete MP3 core just for the sake of getting rid of those emails. I often receive emails asking about how to simulate the jpeg core I posted here (while 99% of people who have followed the instructions of the core have done it succesfully) and 80% of the time is people who DON'T READ THE INSTRUCTIONS (20 lines of text...). Hopefully, the reamining 20% are from polite and capable persons that run into non-obvious problems and to whom I gladly help. Anybody feeling the same? Victor, I agree with what you are saying. However, there had been a discussion here some time ago about switching the mailing list to a managed one, so that people have to review each post before it reaches the mailing list. If I remember right, it never came to the point that anybody volunteered to do that. There is another issue about what you are talking about. Once in a while I look into what projects got updated recently. For example, now the AVR project is in that list at the opencores front page. If you try to figure out what got updated, you will find that it is the bug tracker and someone filed a bug report that there is no source code in CVS. I even found "plz send code" entries in bug trackers that requested code for a total different project. Talking about improvements to opencores, I have another one. I would suggest some policy when dead projects get deleted. Now I understand that if there is some source code available that it might be good to just keep that. But there are projects that are 5 years and older and after creation they never got updated or never left the stage of the initial project template. Take the so often [*] project: http://www.opencores.org/projects.cgi/web/mp3decoder/overview Created, updated the next day and that was it. Ok, that one is not over 5 years old, but even here it could probably fall under the deletion policy. Just some thoughts. Cheers, Guenter [*] I tried to avoid the name to avoid "plz send the code" emails :)

I had considered adding "please send source code" to my spam filter. :) Now I just see it as an unorthdox method of seeing what schools are assigning as homework... -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
