I'm porting or1ksim to Mac OS X, and I did some changes for big-endian
hosts (much like in the proposed patch from James Morrison[2003-11-01],
only for COFF too). I'll have a patch ready for that soon.

However, when trying it out, I found that it's not possible to do a JTAG
upload to a ROM area, because or1ksim protects the memory. That
behaviour also disallows soft-debugging the ROM code.

Defining the ROM area as writeable might be a workaround, but that would
allow target code to write to what is supposed to be ROM. It would
probably make sense to allow ROM access through JTAG, any objections?
