I`m a newbie to OpenRISC. The page at http://opencores.org/news,1079636612 says that there is a tutorial intended for beginners. But i cannot find any such things at opencores.org and other tutorials i found on the internet was out of date.

Can anyone please send a link to an updated tutorial ?

That article looks pretty old. There are lots of information on the openrisc wiki http://opencores.org/or1k/OR1K:Community_Portal , but much of it assumes some prior knowledge. A new tutorial is in the works, but nothing is released so far.

It also depends on what kind of development you are interested in. If you want to write C programs, or try out an RTOS, you could start to learn how to use the GNU toolchain and or1ksim. If you want to download an FPGA image to a development board, or port the design to a new board, I would suggest you take a look at orpsoc or minsoc. If you are interested in the architecture, I would suggest reading the specification (available on the wiki) and start looking through the verilog code in SVN.

It's a big project, so start with something small to learn about the project, and don't hesitate to ask for help.

Thank you Olof.

In fact, i`m specialized in electronics. So couldn't understand some of the things regarding Linux. And I`m trying to make a UPS testing device on a virtex 5 board. I can do the same thing much more easily in an ARM kit or so, but I`m crazy about HDLs :) Now i know where to start.

One more question: I need to have a GUI interface for the device. I would like to use Qt. Can i compile Qt with uclibc ?

That sounds good. We need more crazy HDL guys :)

There is a port of ORPSoC for ML501. I would suggest you work from that for your board port. There is also a VGA/LCD IP on opencores that has been tried on ORPSoC

I don't know if anyone has tried to build qt, but I would like to know that too.
A quick googling shows that qt embedded should work on uclibc, so there's at least something to start from.
