Hello,
i am trying to debug the Openrisc processor using the advance jtag bridge. before i could run it on a board i wanted to test OpenRisc processor using the rtl_sim cable in the advance jtag bridge. i am using gdb-6.8 to debug. i am having the following error when i do target remote :9999 under gdb.

At the adv_jtag_bridge:

./adv_jtag_bridge -l 0:4 -l 1:4 -c 0x01 rtl_sim
Enumerating JTAG chain...

Devices on JTAG chain:
Index Name ID Code IR Length
----------------------------------------------------------------
0: (unknown) 0x292A230B -1
1: (unknown) 0xFFFFFFFF -1

Target device 0, JTAG ID = 0x292a230b
Using command-line debug command 0x1
JSP server listening on host violet (::), port 9944, address family IPv6
JSP server thread running!

At the GDB end:

target remote :9999
Remote debugging using :9999
Ignoring packet error, continuing...
warning: unrecognized item "timeout" in "qSupported" response
Ignoring packet error, continuing...

Malformed response to offset query, timeout

any idea on why i am having the above error?

First, that's a very interesting JTAG chain configuration for a simulation - you really changed the RTL in dbg_comm.v to add a second device to the chain?

Second, you should use the VPI module instead if at all possible. The version you are using uses filesystem-based communication, which is slower.

Third, you should probably disable the JTAG serial port in simulation, unless you really need to use it. Once the system is running, adv_jtag_bridge will poll the JSP at the maximum rate...very slow in a simulation.

But, none of those will actually fix your problem. See this:

http://www.minsoc.com/advanced_jtag_bridge_faq#adv_jtag_bridge_ignoring_packet_error_continuing_problem

That should take care of the "ignoring packet error" problem. I'm not sure what's causing the 'unrecognized item' message...what version of GDB are you using? You should be using 6.8, with the patch included with adv_jtag_bridge. I tried 7.1 recently, and it will not work.
