Hi Everyone,
I am trying to load the Linux kernel onto my ML501 with OrpSoc. Following the instructions at http://opencores.org/openrisc,debugging_physical, I am able to load the kernel through gdb and the or_debug_proxy and USB JTAG debugger, and specifying the entry point with spr npc 0x100. However, the output that I see on my serial console is all gibberish (See attached screenshot). I have built the toolchain and compiled the kernel via the instructions on http://openrisc.net/toolchain-build.html. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bryan

Gibberish is good. At least its running enough to converse with the uart. Every time that I have seen a screen like that is has always been my host uart config. Try changing baud rate and parity selections and hope that works. If not then you might have a clock rate issue and could be running on a non standard baud rate. John Eaton |

Hi Bryan,
The Linux maintainer doesn't read this forum (I think)... try sending your question to linux@lists.openrisc.net instead. I had this problem before and Jonas told me to change the clock frequency in the device tree file. I'm sure he can give you more information if you send an email to the mailing list. Regards, Steve |

hi, yes mailing list for linux or forum of openrisc.net is better if you have problem in linux :)
just change frequency in system.dts or copy it to another dts file and change the line to this line: bootargs = "console=uart,mmio,0x90000000,115200 lpj=200000 debug"; cpu@0 { compatible = "opencores,openrisc-1200"; clock-frequency = ; }; serial0: serial@90000000 { /* FIXME: device_type is still needed here... should remove requirement from of_serial driver */ device_type = "serial"; compatible = "opencores,uart", "ns16550a"; reg = ; interrupts = ; clock-frequency = ; }; http://git.openrisc.net/cgit.cgi/bakiri/linux/tree/arch/openrisc/boot/dts/ml501.dts?id=3573106e8e8df02982586944c2e62c6fa638e6c8 |
