Hello!
I am fairly new to the FPGA world so please bare with me if my question is stupid. I'm experimenting with minsoc and have everything up and running for my FPGA-board (Nexys2-1200), self-tests and uart examples work fine. I've also compiled and got the Linux kernel up and running in or1ksim. The next step would be to load Linux onto the board. For that to work I need a memory controller (right?), and to be honest I don't know where to begin. I'm not sure this has been done for my board with minsoc or orpsoc. Any pointers or suggestions in any direction would be very helpful. Thanks and regards, Johan |

Seems like we're on the same boat ... you can look here for a start:
http://kevinmehall.net/openrisc/guide/ This uses the ORPSoC platform as an example but you can tweak around and use it for MinSoC. MinSoC uses on-chip memory - which may be limited depending on your FPGA chip. You can use 'versatile memory controller' core from Opencores and configure it to your needs. Hope this helps. Thanks for the link, I will check it out.
Also the Versatile Memory Controller project. However adapting it and including it to MinSoC seems a bit daunting for me. If there only were some reference that one could peek at, it would help a lot. Maybe there is? I would like to use ORPSoC but it seemed harder to adapt to my board than MinSoC was, maybe it is possible to adapt ORPSoC to a specific board in a similar manner? Thanks for your help. /J |
