I'm following the instructions at this website (http://opencores.org/or1k/OpenRISC_GNU_tool_chain#Installation_from_source) to compile the toolchain from scratch on an OpenSUSE 12.1 box. But it seems the box always freezes up at a certain point and never recovers, requiring me to reboot the machine and pick up from whereever it left off.
It's a virtual machine with 600GB of hard drive, 4GB of memory, 4 CPUs (core i7 2.3GHz SandyBridge) running on a host with twice as many CPU's and twice as much memory (and not doing much else while this runs). Is this enough compute power to get the job done? This is a virtual machine (VMWare fusion 4.1.3). Are there any known problems building the tool chain with a virtual machine? Thanks, |

Hi malexgreen That's more than enough horsepower. Should build in a matter of minutes with 4 dual-hyperthreaded cores and a reasonable amount of RAM. Can you post some output where it hangs here, so we can take a look. HTH, Jeremy

-- Looks like my problem was that I was trying to do this build on an HGFS drive that is apparently too slow. Not sure how to fix the HGFS drive. But I was able to make more progress; however, I am still getting errors. They seem benign: ... make[1]: [gcc.pod] Error 255 (ignored) ... make[1]: [stamp-parallel] Error 1 (ignored) ... make[1]: [gcc.pod] Error 255 (ignored) ... make[2]: *** [netfilter] Error 2 make[1]: *** [linux] Error 2 make: *** [headers_install] Error 2 Linux header installation failed Is this a good build? The entire log of the run is attached.
