What's VATS?

The OpenCores HDL modeling guidelines mention a VATS script for automated verification.
Is VATS a free open source script? I have tried to find it on OpenCores web pages, but so far I haven't found it. Is available on OpenCores, and if so where? If it's not on OpenCores, where is it? Or is VATS a general term for automated verification scripts?

The modeling guidlines also mention a Verification Strategies document. Where can I find it?
