Wow, why is it such a hassle to do a simple upload to one's new project!? Like we have nothing better to do than waste time figuring it all out.

We want to contribute, but obstacles and lack of understandable information may prevent that. Nice...

hi michael

reading your post, my first quess is that you never used a version management tool before. i know from myself that learning how to use it (and why it is good to use it) is not the most self-explanatory thing.

as with many other thinks, you learn the concepts once and will use it with all the different implentations like SVN, CVS, git, mercurial, bazaar,...

for the opencores community, it would be much more helpful, if you could provide feedback, where you had problems.

did you found the opencores SVN introduction?

http://opencores.org/opencores,svn

have you read the chapter "Getting started with Subversion"?

where did you miss importand information? what was incomprehensible for you?

if you are still struggling, feel free to ask again for help.

best regards,
nuess0r

Yes, read it repeatedly... Pretty confusing, as it doesn't define any terminology.

The process seems to assume an existing project! Nothing else after that seems applicable to a new project.

Nor was I impressed by the Subversion install. Took a while to find one that would work on OSX 10.4. After the install, I had no idea where it even was. Had to do a system-wide search just to find it. A good start. But, as I said, even once I found it...then what?

One nice thing about Ubuntu is that installation is

sudo apt-get install subversion

That is a good point. If you have never used a tool before then you have no idea that for some odd reason subversion is actually svn. Documentation should always include a screen dump of the commands typed and the expected responses.

Subversion is let down in general by its documentation. It lacks a good beginner's tutorial.

In case you haven't found it, here is the user guide.

Do you already have a
project or do you try to start a new one using SVN? This will not work.

From the Opencores FAQ:
Start by getting an account on OpenCores (as described above). Before
requesting a new project, check if there are any other projects similar
to the one you want to start. If there is, consider joining that
project before starting a new one.

To start a new project, select the "create project"-link under "My
account"-page.

On this point I can't help you. I don't have any experience with
OS X. Just found out that Icarus Verilog is available for OS X. Could
be good to stress the OS X svn developers to write a simple
introduction for starters like you.
