I'm a die hard LaTeX type for all the documents I create. Here on OpenCores, these include the specifications I have written for the various cores I have created. After struggling with expressing the capabilities of these cores in a specification, I was rather suprised, and a bit pleased, to find a LaTeX package for expressing bit-fields recently. The package is the "bytefield" package. You can read the documentation here.

I think anyone else who enjoys LaTeX will also enjoy this capability while putting bitfields together. I'm especially looking forward to using these bitfields when describing soft-core CPU instruction sets, such as for the Zip CPU I've been working on, or the new instruction set I've been building for it. While I have no examples to show at this time, I expect future versions of my specifications to use this package--it's just that good.
