PCI host controller

Excuse my ignorance.

I'm approaching this knowing nothing about PCI.

Can the open-cores PCI ip be used as a host-controller?

I intend to implement a microblaze system within a spartan-3 processor.
It would be nice to have a PCI socket on my board, inplement PCI
controller in hardware (w/ software support) and to plug in a pci video
card - write some new drivers and have a working display.

Something tells me this may not be that simple - all the commercial PCI
cores I have seen seem to target PCI cards plugging into a PC
motherboard.

Can anyone set my ignorance straight - what would I need to do to
implement a PCI host controller in hardware.

Kindest Regards

Hi! Open Cores PCI can be a host. Actually, if you read the specification, you will notice mentioning of HOST / GUEST implementations throughout the document. Hi Samual, Yes it can be used as host. Also if you look on Opencores there are the 'wrappers' you need to connect wishbone to Xilinx bus so using Opencores should be easy. ----- Original Message ----- From: samuel.bayliss@gmail.com> To: pci@opencores.org> Sent: Friday, September 10, 2004 5:55 PM Subject: [pci] PCI host controller
