Hi! Thanks for this core. I've ported it to the MiST board, and did some enhancements, if interested: https://github.com/gyurco/Next186
(However VGA would need some more care to make it even more compatible - a big topic would be font handling, both in BIOS and HDL, look at SimCity for example.)
